It was originally released by Mercury Records in the United States on 4 November 1970 and in the United Kingdom on 10 April 1971. The Man Who Sold the World has been retrospectively described by Bowie biographers and commentators as the beginning of Bowie's artistic growth, with many also agreeing that it was his first album where he began to find his sound.
