1 of 12 Different LP Jackets, Each Representing a Strange Little Girls Persona!
In 2001 Tori Amos released a unique collection of cover versions, Strange Little Girls. No stranger to putting her own individual stamp on other writers' songs, what made Strange Little Girls so different was the conceptual nature of the project, where she tackled 12 songs written by men and interpreted them from her own unique persecutive. She chose a diverse group of songs to cover, ranging from the Beatles and Depeche Mode to Tom Waits and the Velvet Underground. The album delivered some truly unforgettable interpretations, turning Eminem's "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" into a chilling monologue of maternal rage and reimagining Slayer's "Raining Blood" as a slow, eerie meditation.
The original 12 track album has now been bolstered with four extra bonus tracks not on the original release: Alice Cooper's "Only Women Bleed," David Bowie's "After All," plus two unreleased songs, Bruce Springsteen's "Growin' Up" and Elvis Costello's "Hoover Factory."
The project remains one of Amos' most striking and conceptually ambitious works. To bring the concept to life, she collaborated with renowned makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, who helped transform her into 12 different women—each with her own backstory. Photographs of those characters appeared in the original liner notes along with their stories.
Rhino are now releasing 12 different versions of the LP, which is available on vinyl for the very first time, with 12 different LP jackets, each featuring Tori as a different character she embodied on the album.
