Unlike the more sunshine-soaked "Big Wave" or the holiday-themed tracks he became known for later, Spacy feels more intimate and experimental. It features tight, intricate arrangements and a heavy emphasis on rhythm.

The album features an "All-Star" lineup of legendary Japanese session musicians, including Haruomi Hosono (of Yellow Magic Orchestra) on bass and Ryuichi Sakamoto on keyboards. This 2023 vinyl reissue was remastered to capture the warmth and precision of these original 1970s analog recordings.
