Description
Recorded in 1966 at Walldorf Tonstudio in Frankfurt, "Swinging Oildrops!" is a cornerstone of German modern jazz led by the legendary alto saxophonist and clarinetist Emil Mangelsdorff.
At a time when "Beatlemania" and rock music dominated the airwaves, Mangelsdorff and his ensemble—featuring jazz greats like Volker Kriegel on guitar and Joki Freund on saxophone—set out to prove the enduring power of high-quality, swinging jazz. The album’s title was a playful, "fantasy" attempt to appeal to younger listeners by mimicking the naming conventions of contemporary rock groups.
