Insomniac is the fourth album of American punk rock band Green Day. It was released on October 10, 1995 by Reprise Records. Recordings took place in Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, California with producer Rob Cavallo. Insomniac incorporated a heavier and abrasive sound compared to their previous album Dookie. Lyrically, the album discusses subjects ranging from anxiety, alienation, and drug use. Insomniac also served as a response to fans who stopped supporting the band after agreeing to join Reprise Records.
Four singles were released off the album: "Geek Stink Breath", "Stuck with Me", "Brain Stew" / "Jaded" (released as joint singles), and "Walking Contradiction", all of which received radio airplay and much popularity. Critically, the album was received greatly by critics. Insomniac has sold more than 2 million copies in the United States. Worldwide, it has sold more than 8 million copies.
