This Waxtime LP reissue contains Joan Baez’s third album, originally released on the Vanguard label in September 1962: Joan Baez in Concert. Recorded at different locations during a U.S. concert tour in 1962, this masterpiece captures the undisputed queen of folk music at the onset of her fabled career. Though Baez was reportedly suffering from stage fright at the time of these recordings, her delivery is crystal clear and confident. The selection of material in the album represents her diverse influences, with styles ranging from African traditional music (“Kumbaya,” “Danger Waters”), to gospel (“Gospel Ship”), to Brazilian folk music (“Até Amanhã”), and blues (“Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”). Like her first two albums, Joan Baez in Concert achieved gold record status and remained in the bestseller charts for over two years.
