Tormé is an uptempo gem that Mel Torme swings to perfection. Nicknamed "The Velvet Fog," Torme was a noted singer, composer, arranger, drummer and actor. This self-titled 1958 studio album was his first record for Verve.
Reviewer John Bush, writing for AllMusic, gives the album 4 Stars, saying Torme skillfully blends both carefree and reflective numbers. "For every bouncy single like 'That Old Feeling' or 'I'm Gonna Laugh You Out of My Life,'" there's drama in "'Gloomy Sunday,' 'The House Is Haunted (By the Echo of Your Last Goodbye),' and his dramatic eight-minute reading of 'Blues in the Night.'"
