Moon Haewon and Tsuyoshi Yamamoto leave us yenning for Fascination, their second collaborative album after 2023's Midnight Sun: Haewon, the Korean jazz vocalist who first made her name with crossover group Winterplay before stepping out solo in 2016, is a perfect match for Yamamoto, veteran pianist admired since his 1974 LP Midnight Sugar, and who brings his lyrical, blues-shaded touch to Haewon's halcyon voice, an unforced yet award-winning chemistry. Fascination assembles standards including 'Mood Indigo' and 'Early Autumn' alongside originals like 'Solitary Moon', reworked from a Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden piece.
