Written at the height of the 2020 lockdowns, Charli XCX’s how i’m feeling now is a raw, glitchy, and deeply intimate time capsule of isolation. Created in just six weeks with a "DIY" ethos, the album strips away the high-gloss finish of traditional pop in favor of distorted synths, hyper-kinetic beats, and jagged production—much of it crowdsourced through fan feedback on Zoom calls and social media.
The project captures the polar extremes of the pandemic experience. On one side, tracks like "claws" and "forever" serve as distorted love letters, exploring the intensity of being trapped in close quarters with a partner. On the other, club-ready anthems like "visions" and "anthems" ache for the sensory overload of a dance floor that, at the time, felt like a distant memory.
By blending vulnerability with industrial-strength hyperpop, Charli XCX managed to create something that felt both chaotic and comforting, proving that even in total solitude, music can be a communal lifeline.
