    Description

KHRUANGBIN – The Universe Smiles Upon You (10th Anniversary Japanese Import Vinyl LP w/ OBI)

The definitive 10th-anniversary reissue of the album that started it all, complete with a traditional Japanese OBI strip.

Step back into the roots of global psych-funk with this premium anniversary import of The Universe Smiles Upon You, the mesmerizing 2015 debut studio album by the Houston, Texas trio Khruangbin. Marking a decade since its original release, this highly collectible Japanese edition celebrates the timeless blueprint of the band’s signature borderless groove, introducing it to a new era of vinyl enthusiasts.

Largely formed and recorded in a remote barn in Burton, Texas, The Universe Smiles Upon You captures a distinctively warm, organic, and deeply chill atmosphere. The album draws its primary inspiration from the under-explored sounds of 1960s and 1970s Thai cassette culture—specifically Thai funk, rock, and pop—which the band discovered via music blogs. Bassist Laura Lee and drummer Donald "DJ" Johnson lay down remarkably sparse, lock-step rhythm arrangements, giving Mark Speer’s fluid, reverb-drenched guitar improvisations room to breathe and float.
