The seventh studio album from the increasingly popular and always-excellent Wilco. Led by the incomparable Jeff Tweedy, Wilco has been primarily about alt-country rock. In fact, they more or less carved out an entire genre, into which countless following bands have thrown their records. But they veered off course with their still-quite-good Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born, which included some pretty far-out experimentation. Sky Blue Sky takes Wilco back into the pocket. The new record takes on jazz, acoustic folk, a little blues, some rock and, of course, some good, good country. It's been a long, torturous wait for Wilco fans (their last studio album, A Ghost Is Born, came out in 2004), but Sky Blue Sky has all the makings of a sure-to-please effort – Tweedy's ultra-range voice, their outstanding technical guitar work and some damn fine songwriting.
